Bio

Alexander Flock

Alexander Flock is a versatile guitarist specializing in solo acoustic guitar. As a solo performer he combines bass, melody, choral accompaniment and percussive techniques to create a sound so rich and full you may find it hard to believe all that sound is coming from a single instrument. His performances are high energy and traverse many styles.  Traditional Travis pickin’ tunes, jazz standards from the days gone by, instrumental arrangements of Beatles’ songs and even his own impressive original works can all be expected at a performance. Over the years Alex has received various awards and accolades for his playing, the most recent being his 3rd place finish at the 2012 Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Competition, a prestigious competition judged by some of today’s top fingerstyle guitarists. In addition to his work as a solo performer Alex has also performed with various groups ranging from small jazz ensembles to folk/rock outfits and even with big bands such as Vancouver’s own Mackenzie Jones Big Band. A few performance highlights include providing entertainment for various high profile functions during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games and a double concert night backing up trumpet virtuoso Allen Vizzutti with UBC Jazz Ensemble I at the Whistler Convention Centre. Whether playing an intimate solo show or performing with a 20 piece big band Alex brings an intensity and precision to each performance that you don’t want to miss!

In addition to performing, Alex has recently recorded his first full length album, “The Days Gone By”. This album showcases his acoustic compositions and features Trent Freeman on fiddle. It is available on iTunes.
